Beyond the Horizon: Step away from the grind and get off the grid.

The spirit of exploration defines the American West. With over six million acres between the Bridger-Teton and Shoshone National Forests, we’ve spent years exploring the backcountry searching for our next favorite campsite.

Instead of exploring from one fixed base camp, Said Creek Outfitters embraces a nomadic approach. This isn’t the easy way to see the mountains because it requires more horsepower, more manpower, and a good bit of grit, but if you’ve ever looked into a vast landscape and thought, “I wonder what is beyond that hill,” this is for you.

Pack trips come with a disclaimer: You’ll never see Wyoming, or yourself, the same way again.

Finding Comfort in the Wild

Let’s be honest: we are in one of the most remote locations in the lower 48. Out here, you are completely off the grid. No cell service, no modern distractions, just raw nature.

You have to be mentally prepared for this kind of experience. The weather can be a fickle companion, bringing sunshine, rain, snow, hail, and heat all within a few hours. Simplicity is the luxury of the backcountry. You will find yourself waking up with tired muscles to the soft nickers of horses, and washing up with water warmed by the campfire.

We strip away modern distractions so the only schedule is sunrise and sunset.

The Reward of the Effort

If you would describe “relaxation” as that feeling of accomplishment after a long day in the saddle, you’re in the right place. The best view of these mountains can’t be seen without some work.

It is the warmth of the high-altitude sun on your skin and drinking from crystal-clear mountain springs surrounded by wildflowers. It’s watching wildlife move as it always has with herds of elk by the hundreds, bighorn sheep scaling the highest ridges, and grizzlies lumbering along distant hillsides. Binoculars are a must!

  • The Food: Breakfast and dinner are cooked over an open fire. It’s real, it’s meant to nourish, and it tastes better than anything you’ve ever eaten indoors. Lunch is simple and packed in your saddlebags, giving you the freedom to explore or sit in silence.
  • The Pace: The only schedule is sunrise and sunset.  After a long day, there is nothing like sitting by the fire, watching flames dance in the crisp night air, and looking up at a sky so full of stars.

A Way of Living

A pack trip isn’t just about getting away; it’s about coming home to a way of living that has been lost in the modern world. We enjoy providing a luxury experience in our lodge with fine dining, but we just as much enjoy providing a piece of a bygone era in the wilderness.

If that sounds intimidating, we get it. We ask ourselves what we’re thinking all the time! But if that sounds like the peace you’ve been dreaming of… well, let’s saddle up and make it happen.

The American West has long been the ultimate destination for adventure seekers, from early explorers to modern travelers looking to escape into wide-open spaces. Traditionally, the most common way to experience this region was through a structured, all-inclusive, and pre-planned itinerary. Today, many modern adventurers are seeking flexibility and personalization.

Wyoming’s hunting license application process is simple in theory but complex in practice. The timeline may look straightforward, but between varying species windows, modification deadlines, and draw result dates, there’s a lot to track. If you wait until the last minute to apply, you’re almost guaranteed frustration.

Winter still feels wonderfully old-fashioned. Snow blankets the high desert landscape, the mountains stand sharp against the sky, and the pace of life slows just enough to notice the crunch of boots, the whisper of skis, and the stillness that only winter brings. One of the greatest joys of winter at the ranch is its simplicity.

Even in the shortest time, there’s something unforgettable about experiencing Wyoming on horseback. The steady rhythm of hooves against the earth, the scent of sun-warmed sage, and the breathtaking sweep of the Wind River and Absaroka Mountain Ranges—it all comes together in a way that stays with you long after the ride ends.

While some guests ask about one-hour rides, we believe that two hours is the perfect window—just enough time to immerse yourself in the beauty of the land, form a connection with your horse, and truly breathe in the stillness of Wyoming’s wild places.

Our horses have safely carried young riders experiencing their first time in the saddle, as well as medaled Olympians looking for a quick ride to fulfill their equine addictions. These rides are not fast-paced, as the rocky terrain and steep climbs and descents require steady navigation. Our horses are well cared for, and their endurance is built throughout the years, ensuring they are surefooted, confident, and ready to carry riders along mountain trails.

Our location is unmatched, offering riders views that capture the rugged charm of the West. Whether you’re a first-time rider or a seasoned horseman/woman, this leisurely-paced journey allows you to relax into the saddle, soak in the views, and get a taste of the Wyoming backcountry.

If you’re a long time/independent angler looking to leave the crowds behind and spend a full day fishing wild waters that most folks never reach, our Ride & Fish trip was made for you.  We saddle up seasoned, mountain-savvy horses and head out at a relaxed walking pace—no need to be an expert rider or cartographer. These trustworthy partners know their way around the backcountry and are more than happy to carry you, your rod, waders, lunch, and a few trail snacks into the heart of Wyoming’s trout country. Along the way, we pass through big views and quiet stretches of water teeming with a variety of trout species. Our fishing guides have hand picked and curated fly boxes specific to the areas we fish, so you’re always throwing something that works with the season.

New to fly fishing? Or just looking to sharpen your skills? No problem! We are happy to provide additional support for beginners. Our lead fly fishing guide, Amanda, is always to ride along and provide instruction stream side. Consider the journey a rolling master class—plenty of time in the saddle to talk tactics, ask questions, and share stories before even making a first cast.

This isn’t your average day on the river. It’s a full immersion into mountain life, with the best of both worlds: remote fishing and real-time support from seasoned guides and happy horses.
