Trail Rides, Pack Trips & Horseback Riding Experiences

A TRUE VIEW OF THE WEST

At Said Creek Outfitters & Outfitting Adventures, we believe that horseback riding in Wyoming should be authentic, immersive, and personal. That’s why we keep our riding groups small—to ensure that each guest gets the attention they deserve, the space to connect with their horse, and the chance to truly experience the wilderness, not just follow a trail of dust.

We offer both morning and afternoon rides, and all riders are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled departure. For those looking for a more exclusive experience, private rides can be arranged outside of our set ride times, with pricing available upon request.  Our mixed riding groups—where guests may ride alongside others they haven’t met before—are limited to no more than six riders.  For all rides, including private reservations, we intentionally cap our group size at eight guests with up to two guides, ensuring a safer, more personalized, and more enjoyable experience.

We take pride in creating custom riding experiences, pairing each guest with a well-trained, well-cared-for, and athletic mountain horse. These horses are not standing at a hitching rail every day from morning to dusk, waiting for someone to fill the saddle. They are actively worked, thoughtfully conditioned, and selected specifically for each rider based on body type, experience level, and physical ability.Whether you’re looking for a scenic trail ride, a full-day adventure, or a multi-day pack trip, we are here to offer you a true view of the true West—one where the landscape is vast, the horses are exceptional, and the experience is unforgettable.

Two-Hour Trail Ride

Even in the shortest time, there’s something unforgettable about experiencing Wyoming on horseback. The steady rhythm of hooves against the earth, the scent of sun-warmed sage, and the breathtaking sweep of the Wind River and Absaroka Mountain Ranges—it all comes together in a way that stays with you long after the ride ends.

While some guests ask about one-hour rides, we believe that two hours is the perfect window—just enough time to immerse yourself in the beauty of the land, form a connection with your horse, and truly breathe in the stillness of Wyoming’s wild places.

Our horses have safely carried young riders experiencing their first time in the saddle, as well as medaled Olympians looking for a quick ride to fulfill their equine addictions. These rides are not fast-paced, as the rocky terrain and steep climbs and descents require  steady navigation. Our horses are well cared for, and their endurance is built throughout the years, ensuring they are surefooted, confident, and ready to carry riders along mountain trails.

Our location is unmatched, offering riders views that capture the rugged charm of the West. Whether you’re a first-time rider or a seasoned horseman/woman, this leisurely-paced journey allows you to relax into the saddle, soak in the views, and get a taste of the Wyoming backcountry.

If you’re looking for an unforgettable way to experience Wyoming’s wild beauty without committing to a full day in the saddle, our half-day rides offer the perfect balance of adventure and ease. Designed for riders of all levels, these excursions allow you to explore the stunning Badlands or the Warm Springs Canyon area at a relaxed pace, taking in the sweeping vistas and rugged landscapes that make this region so unique.

Your journey begins as you mount up and set off through painted desert hills, winding canyons, and open sagebrush country, with the towering Absaroka and Wind River Ranges standing watch in the distance. Unlike faster-paced rides, this experience is about connection—both to the land and to your horse. You’ll have plenty of time to bond with your mount, learning to read its movements, trust its instincts, and enjoy the rhythmic sway of the ride.

Along the way, our knowledgeable guides will bring the land to life, sharing stories of the region’s geology, wildlife, and history. You might hear the call of a red-tailed hawk overhead, spot ancient petroglyphs etched into the rock, or catch a glimpse of wild pronghorn moving across the valley floor.  This ride is about more than just scenery—it’s about feeling the heartbeat of Wyoming. Along the way, you’ll wind through remote canyons, cross crystal-clear streams, and traverse high mountain plateaus with sweeping views of Wyoming’s most iconic landscapes. Keep an eye out for wildlife—elk, mule deer, bald eagles, and even bighorn sheep roam these lands.

Your guide will meet you at The Perch Coffee House (or another agreed-upon location) before transporting you to the trailhead. If your group has more than three riders or you prefer to drive yourself, simply follow your guide to the staging area. Many guests and guides enjoy a cup of coffee at The Perch in downtown Dubois before heading out for the day’s adventure.

As the sun moves across the sky, you’ll break for a trailside lunch with a view—a chance to rest, refuel, and soak in the grandeur of the Valley of the Warm Winds before continuing your journey through this wild and storied landscape.

Buckaroo Hour

Over time, we’ve learned that creating small, meaningful moments between kids and horses brings joy to everyone—our young guests, our wranglers, and most importantly, our horses. That’s why we’ve introduced Oldie Goldies & Young Horse Lovers, a simple and heartwarming way for little ones to connect with our gentle, well-loved horses.

Each of our horses deserves a day off, but even on their rest days, many of them love attention and care. This experience is designed for kids ages 3 and up, giving them the chance to pet, groom, feed, and take a short ride around the property with a parent close at hand. And of course, no visit would be complete without a few carrots, apples, and sweet treats—for both horses and kiddos alike!

Our patient and experienced wranglers take special care to ensure that both the children and the horses are comfortable and at ease. We start by talking about horses—their personalities, their quirks, and what makes them special—and about the kids and their personalities, too. Not every horse is a snuggler, and not every child is drawn to horses, but chances are, we can make a match.

This isn’t an educational program or a therapeutic session—just a sweet, simple opportunity for kids and horses to spend time together. No pressure, no expectations—just one hour of smiles, gentle interactions, treats, and most importantly… hugs. Lots and lots of hugs.

$75

  • About 1 hour with some riding included

  • Parents or adult guardian must be present and engaged during session
  • 4 participants per session with mixed groups *Private session may be arranged-special rates apply

4 Day/3 Night Pack Trips

THE ULTIMATE WYOMING EXPERIENCE

A pack trip is more than just a horseback ride—it’s a journey into the soul of Wyoming, into landscapes so vast and varied they can’t be understood from the highway. Out here, away from the noise—both external and internal—of modern life, the mountains offer a rare and profound peacefulness. When you’re ready to truly unplug, to step into a world where the only schedule is sunrise and sunset, our overnight horseback riding vacations and pack trips are hard to beat.

Imagine being miles from civilization, where life slows to a rhythm as old as the mountains themselves. Breathtaking vistas, rugged terrain, delicious meals cooked over an open fire, and evenings spent beneath a sky full of stars—this isn’t a Disneyland ride, this is the real deal.

When we founded Said Creek Outfitters & Outfitting Adventures, we knew we wanted to share this experience with our guests. This is how we fell in love with Wyoming—not just by seeing it, but by living in it. Drinking from crystal-clear mountain springs surrounded by wildflowers, feeling the warmth of the high-altitude sun on your skin, and breathing in the earthy, pine-scented air. There is a luxury in simplicity—in washing your face with water warmed by a campfire kettle, in waking up to the soft nickers of horses, in sitting by the fire after a long day in the saddle, swapping stories as the flames dance in the crisp night air, and looking up at the star filled sky.

Out here, wildlife moves as it always has, unaffected by the world beyond the peaks. We often see herds of elk by the hundreds, bighorn sheep scaling the highest ridges, and grizzlies lumbering along distant hillsides. We’ve even been lucky enough to spot the occasional wolverine. Binoculars are a must—these are sights that few people ever get to witness, a reminder of just how wild and untamed this land truly is.

A person must be mentally prepared for this kind of experience. Go ahead and think about what it will be like to unplug from your cell phone and put it away. Out here, there’s no need for screens. Think of each selfie moment as a chance to capture a mental picture, an image that will live within your own personal tapestry of memories—something you can carry with you forever, long after the trip is over.

And let’s talk about the food—because just like the experience, it’s real and meant to nourish. We’re not sending you out with hard tack and dehydrated beans. Breakfast and dinner are cooked over an open fire, hearty and warming, just as they should be after a day in the mountains. Lunch is simple and packed in your saddlebags, giving you the freedom to explore, sightsee, and soak in the experience—whether that’s casting a line in an alpine lake, taking a refreshing dip in a high-country stream, or simply sitting in silence, letting the wild seep into your bones.

In nature, the unexpected can happen—but instead of resisting it, embrace it. Take pleasure in the feelings of uncertainty, in the unknown. Find comfort in the wild. Let go, breathe deep, and enjoy.  Let us guide you to real, simple beauty. A pack trip isn’t just about getting away—it’s about coming home to a way of living that has been lost in the modern world. And once you’ve felt it, you’ll never see Wyoming , or yoruself, the same way again

  • Age Recommendations: Minors who ride should have the ability, demeanor and stamina for the ride being booked, and must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.  2 hour and half day rides may be appropriate for young riders. Full day rides and pack trips may also be appropriate with prior discussion. Young children who are not suited for longer trail rides may consider joining our Buckaro Hour for kiddos ages 3 and up!
  • Weight Limit: Our standard weight limit is 250 pounds. While we do have some strong, draft-cross Mustangs capable of carrying heavier riders, we generally adhere to this guideline unless special circumstances apply. A physically fit, experienced rider with horsemanship knowledge may still be considered for a two-hour or half-day ride.

    • We do our best to stay on schedule, but trail riding is unpredictable. If you’re planning an outdoor adventure, we recommend allowing flexibility in your vacation itinerary.
  • Private Property & Walk-Ins:
    • This is a private ranch. Out of respect for our family, guests, and operation, we do not accept walk-ins.

PACK TRIP CONSIDERATIONS

IS A PACK TRIP RIGHT FOR YOU?

Said Creek Outfitters is permitted for pack trips on the Shoshone National Forest and partners with another outfitter to operate in the Bridger Teton National Forest. We offer customized, one-of-a-kind backcountry adventures. Each trip is carefully designed around the vision of our clients and the ever-changing conditions of the wilderness, ensuring an authentic and immersive experience. We cater to mixed groups, private family vacations, and specialized retreats or workshops, tailoring every detail accordingly.

Unlike outfitters who operate from a fixed base camp, we believe in true exploration. Every trip takes us to new locations, traversing remote trails and setting up camp in new areas. While we spend no more than three nights in one location, longer “progressive” trips can be arranged with prior planning.

This fluid, nomadic approach requires more horsepower and manpower, but it also allows us to fully experience the mountains—offering new terrain, fresh perspectives, and untamed beauty with every adventure. Our seasoned horses and skilled crew make these journeys not only possible but also exciting, and unforgettable.

Backcountry pack trips can be transformative—for our guests and for us, even after all these years. Every trip is different, and every ride deepens our appreciation for this wild, untamed place we call home.

That said, we are in Wyoming—one of the most remote states in the lower 48. You’ll be riding horses, hiking, and completely off the grid—no cell service, no modern distractions, just raw nature at its finest. The weather? Expect everything. Sunshine, rain, snow, heat—all within the span of a few minutes. But then, just as quickly, you’ll be taking pictures of a golden sunset, your jacket tied around your waist, completely in awe of where you are.

If that sounds intimidating, we get it. We ask ourselves what we’re thinking all the time! If you’re unsure, consider starting with a half-day or full-day ride before committing to a multi-day pack trip.

But if that sounds like the adventure you’ve been dreaming of… well, let’s saddle up and make it happen!

OUR HORSES

THE HEART OF SAID CREEK OUTFITTERS

Our horses are not just a part of what we do—they are the reason we do it. It is because of them, because of what they have taught us, carried us through, and shared with us, that we are in this industry at all. These horses have led us through highs and lows, rough patches and smooth trails, sunlit ridges and raging storms. They have shown us the best way to live in this wild country, and because of them, we are able to invite you to saddle up, too.

What they give us, they are willing to give to you—a moment of calm, a sense of freedom, a connection to something bigger than yourself. Riding a horse is simple and lovely, peaceful and exhilarating, all at once. These animals are not machines—they are living, breathing partners, and with every ride, they offer a gift to those who trust them: a glimpse into their world and the beauty they see from the trail.

With the reins in your hands, you’ll not only connect with your horse and the land but with your inner cowboy or cowgirl, too. Whether you’re a first-time rider or an experienced horseman, we offer horseback adventures ranging from two-hour rides to full-day excursions and even overnight pack trips—all designed to create unforgettable memories in Wyoming’s untamed backcountry.

We have horses in all stages of their journey—young spicy ones in training, carefully guided by our wranglers, and seasoned veterans who have been with us since they were colts. Each horse is brought along with patience and respect, because a great mountain horse is not born—it is made through experience, trust, and time spent carrying riders through Wyoming’s rugged wilderness.

From late May to early December, our horses work alongside us, navigating steep terrain, carrying guests to breathtaking vistas, and proving time and again their strength, intelligence, and surefootedness. But when the season winds down, they get the break they deserve. While some riding operations keep their horses working year-round, we believe that these hardworking athletes deserve a vacation just as much as anyone else does.

For the winter months, our horses run free in secluded pastures, where they roam wide-open hay meadows, roll in the mud, grow shaggy winter coats, and simply be horses—no saddles, no trails, no human demands. It’s good for them—mind, body, and soul—and when spring comes, they return refreshed, strong, and ready for another season in the mountains.  In fact, they stand in queue waiting for a good long brushing, sweet molasses treats, and a scratch behind the ears.

Keeping a herd of well-trained, trustworthy mountain horses is no small feat. In an era where costs have risen across the board, the care and upkeep of these animals have grown exponentially. We invest in high-octane hay and supplements, regular wellness checks, vaccinations, ferrier services, and dental care—every horse is groomed, checked over, and given individual attention daily. Because they deserve it.

A good mountain horse is not a dime a dozen—they are one in a million. And we are honored to share them with those who ride with us.
