Overnight Pack Trip Considerations
Custom pack trips take months to plan and implement. We take into consideration the vision of our clients and the projected conditions on the ground to build each experience. Much depends on historical weather projections to help determine the trailhead and trajectory of the trip. If its storming heavily in the Wind River Range, we can pivot to alternative routes in the Absarokas if necessary. Much depends on Joe’s knowledge of the terrain and what he feels the client is really hoping to accomplish.
We don’t do cookie cutter trips. We do Real. We like to explore. Before you book a multi day trip in the back country, be honest with yourself. Be honest about what you really want and who you really are. Back country trips can be transformative for our clients, even for us after all these years. Each and every time. AND we are in Wyoming, one of the most rural states in the lower 48. Yes, bears are real. We are riding horses, hiking, out of cell phone service and generally submerged in nature. It rains, snows, blows, storms. Lightning hits the mountain top. We ride up to the mountain tops. Every weather condition imaginable happens within 5 minutes. And then, you are taking pictures of a golden sunset w/ your jacket tied around your waist. OR you are sitting inside the tent, in JULY listening to hail drumming on the fly of the cook-tent, drinking hot tea to warm your fingers and waiting for dinner to be served.
If the sound of that gives you pause…TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLE. We often ask ourselves what we are thinking! Consider trying out a half day or full day horseback first before submerging yourself in an experience that you really don’t want. If you think it sounds totally up your ally and exciting, we are still going to ask you a lot of questions about what you are seeking by booking a backcountry horseback riding trip.
Because we have to tell the horses, then they tell us yea or nay.
